Arrive in Rome and settle into your accommodation. Take a walk around the area and get to know your surroundings.

Today, explore Rome and visit some of the city’s most significant landmarks related to the Reformation. Start with the Basilica of St. Paul’s outside the Walls, where the remains of St. Paul are buried. Then, visit San Paolo alla Regola, where the Reformation in Rome began. Continue on to the Pantheon, a former Roman temple converted to a church in the 7th century. See the Altar of the Fatherland, a monument honoring the first king of Italy. Visit the Mamertime Prison, where St. Peter and St. Paul were imprisoned, and then explore the Colosseum where many Christians were martyred during the Roman Empire.

Spend the day visiting more landmarks significant to the Reformation. Start by visiting the Catacombs of St. Domitilla, one of the largest and oldest catacombs in Rome. Then visit the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, the highest-ranking of the four papal basilicas in Rome and the site of Lateran Councils. Explore the Scala Santa, a staircase said to have been brought to Rome by St. Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine. Then visit the Piazza del Popolo, which was the site of many public executions during the Inquisition. End the day with a visit to the Vatican, home to the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, and many other important landmarks.

Travel to Florence, a city that was central to the Italian Renaissance and played a role in the development of the Reformation. Visit the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the main church in Florence, and the Pitti Palace, the former residence of the Medici family, now home to several museums and galleries.

Today, travel to Torre Pellice, a town that was a center of the Waldensian Church, and played a key role in the Reformation. Visit Pra del Torno, a Waldensian settlement founded in the 18th century. Explore the Chiesa della Tana, a historic Waldensian church in Torre Pellice. Then, visit Schanforan, a Waldensian monument in the mountains.

Travel to Switzerland and visit the Reformation Wall in Geneva, a monument to the Protestant Reformation. Then visit the Reformation Museum and the Zurich Grossmunster, a church where the Swiss Reformer Huldrych Zwingli preached. See the Zwingli Monument, which commemorates Zwingli’s role in the Reformation.

Today, visit Konstanz, a city on Lake Constance that was the site of the Council of Constance, which ended the Papal Schism. Then, visit the cathedral and the house where Jan Hus was imprisoned and later burned at the stake. Continue on to the John Haus Museum, which commemorates the life of Martin Luther’s colleague, Johannes Haus. End the day in Strasbourg, France, where the Strasbourg Cathedral played an important role in the spread of the Reformation.

Today, visit Eisleben, the birthplace and death place of Martin Luther. Explore Luther’s childhood home and the house where he died. Then, travel to Wittenberg, where Luther famously nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church. Visit the Luther House Museum and see the famous Cranach Altarpiece in St. Mary’s Church. End the day in Erfurt, where Luther studied at the University of Erfurt and became a monk.

Travel to Dresden, a city known for its baroque architecture and art. Visit the Zwinger Palace and the Frauenkirche, both of which were destroyed during World War II and later rebuilt. Then, travel to Prague and explore the Old Town Square, which features many historical landmarks including the Astronomical Clock, the Tyn Church, and the Old Town Hall. End the day at Prague Castle, one of the largest castles in the world, which includes the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Golden Lane.

Spend the day exploring more of Prague’s historical landmarks, including the Jewish Quarter, which includes the Old Jewish Cemetery and the Pinkas Synagogue. Then, visit the Charles Bridge, a famous 14th-century stone bridge that crosses the Vltava River. Take in the views of the city from the top of Petrin Hill, which includes the Petrin Tower and the Strahov Monastery.

Fly Back to the US Say goodbye to Europe and head back home with many memories and new insights into the Protestant Reformation.

We’ll start our travel to Cambridge, a center of learning and one of the focal points of the Reformation in England. We will begin by visiting Cambridge University, where many key figures of the Reformation studied and taught. We will explore King’s College Chapel, known for its impressive Gothic architecture and its link to England’s religious history. Afterwards, we will head to St. Edward King and Martyr Church, known as the birthplace of the Reformation movement in Cambridge. We will end the day with a visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum, which houses a rich collection of art and antiquities.

Our journey continues to Oxford, another important academic and religious center. We will visit Oxford University, with its rich history and its role in the Reformation. We will see Magdalen College, where the famous English Reformer John Wycliffe studied and taught. Next, we’ll head to St. Mary the Virgin Church, where several Reformation debates took place. We will end the day at the Martyrs’ Memorial, a monument commemorating the martyrs of the Reformation, including Thomas Cranmer, Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley.

On our last day, we will explore London, a city with a rich Reformed heritage. We will begin by visiting Westminster Abbey, where many prominent Reformers are buried. Then, we will head to the Tower of London, where several leaders of the Reformation were imprisoned. We will visit St. Paul’s Cathedral, a symbol of Protestantism in England. Next, we will explore the British Museum, which houses a vast collection of historical artifacts, including some related to the Reformation. We will end the day walking through the Smithfield neighborhood, where many Reformation martyrs were executed.
