Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVE IN CUSCO & TEMPLE OF KORICANCHA

Once in Cusco, a transfer will greet you and show you to your hotel, located only a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas. Make sure to rest and allow yourself time to acclimate to the Altitude. PM: Visit to Koricancha Temple and the Santo Domingo Convent. This is a religious center known as “Temple of the Sun” it was the most important Temple in Inca Times. What stands out here is the impressive engineering that was employed in its construction, and the

paintings from the Cusquenian School housed inside. Overnight in Cusco.

Day 2SACRED VALLEY AND MARAS SALT MINES AND MORAY TERRACES

Breakfast. Early in the morning we pick you up from the hotel to venture into the Urubamba Valley, known commonly as the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

You will visit Chinchero, located 28 kilometers from Cusco and surrounded by patch work style fields of exquisite natural colors. Chincheros is a charming town, with colonial style constructions and was a major agricultural center during the Tawantinsuyo. One can appreciate the stone walls with trapezoidal niches that provide the setting for the traditional market, where they still practice bartering. Then we will continue to Moray, the three concentric circular terraces lead us to believe that this one of the most important centers for agricultural research. Diverse soil, water supply, weather, humidity and winds make this spot very special for experimentation.

Then, we continue to the Salt Flats of Maras, this place is in the middle of a dry hillside. A spring of salty water runs down the Valley, this water flow is divided into shallow reservoirs and left to dry, locals will then harvest the salt.

After Moray, we will continue the trip to one of the best restaurants of the Sacred Valley, “Tunupa” restaurant, for a buffet lunch (included).

Continue the trip to the Inca Fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, which were built to guard

the entrance to the Sacred Valley and to protect the opening from possible invasion from tribes and eventually the Spanish. The large terraces of the fortress climb up the mountainside and are visible from the quaint streets of the nearby town. Overnight in Ollantaytambo.

Day 3:MACHUPICCHU TOUR

Breakfast at the hotel.

Early in the morning you will take the train for one hour and a half to Machupicchu small village. Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes you will take a shuttle bus up to the entrance of the Sanctuary of Machupicchu ruins.  Machupicchu is one of the new seven wonders of the world.

From here, you’ll enjoy a guided visit of the entire site of Machu Picchu, often known as the “Lost City of the Incas” because the Spanish overlooked it in their conquest of the Incan Empire. Marvel at the well-preserved Inca stonework and the massive scale of this stone city, built on tall terraces in the cloud forest of central Peru.

You will have some free time to explore the ruins before returning by shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes. Have lunch, rest, relax, or shop in town before.

Returning to Ollantaytambo by train in the afternoon and transfer to Cusco by bus. Overnight in Cusco.

Por la tarde, regreso a Ollantaytambo en tren y traslado a Cusco en autobús. Noche en Cusco.

Day 4CUSCO CITY TOUR

Breakfast at the hotel.

Early in the morning, we will pick you up to take you on a Cusco city tour, to see the important ruins in and around Cusco. Start in ruins of Sacsayhuamán, an Incan fort constructed from menhirs that guarded the Imperial city. There are three other important archeological sites, not far at all from the city, that you will visit: Q’enqo, It is one of the largest wak’as (holy places) in the Cusco Region. Many wak’as were based on naturally occurring rock formations. It was believed to be a place where sacrifices and mummification took place, Tambomach’ay, It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and waterfalls that run through the terraced rocks. The function of the site is uncertain: it may have served as a military outpost guarding the approaches to Cusco, as a spa resort for the Incan political elite, or both and Pukapukara, The name probably comes from the red color of the rocks at dusk. Pukapukara is an example of military architecture that also functioned as an administrative center.

Day 5CUSCO TO PUNO

Let your imagination roam free as you traverse the mountain highlands between Cusco and Puno aboard a comfortable first-class bus.

Tour trip include stops for guided visits at important pre-Columbian and colonial sites, including the pre-Inca site at Raqchi and the church of Andahuaylillas, often called the Sistine Chapel of the Americas.

On arrival to Puno, meet our representative for a transfer to your comfortable hotel. Spend the rest of the evening at your leisure, enjoying views over Lake Titicaca or exploring the attractions of Puno’s historic center.

Day 6 TITICACA LAKE TOUR

Be sure to fuel up this morning, as this full-day experience will last around 9 hours. Your Lake Titicaca tour will take you to two of the lake’s most fascinating islands. First, the floating Uros islands are composed of about 32 islands constructed of many layers of totora reeds. While visiting the islands, you’ll be given the chance to learn about local customs, explore the reed homes, and ride on reed boats.

This exciting tour continues to Taquile Island, located about 30 miles by boat from Puno. During the boat ride, you’ll be able to enjoy amazing views of Lake Titicaca, perched at 12,500 feet in elevation, and of the surrounding peninsulas. You will visit the most important sites of the island and embark on a rigorous hike to a jaw-dropping viewpoint. Next, you’ll have time to enjoy a local lunch (not included), before your return by boat to Puno. You’ll arrive back in Puno in the early evening and will have time to relax in your hotel at your leisure.
